Pre-Filing Online Bankruptcy Counseling

Family Service Agency Inc., Consumer Credit Counseling Service (FSA-CCCS), is approved to issue certificates in compliance with the Bankruptcy Code. Approval does not endorse or assure the quality of an agency's services. We use the National Foundation for Credit Counseling's (NFCC) course, More Than One Way Out, approved by the Executive Office of the US Trustee.

Federal legislation requires anyone seeking bankruptcy to first complete a counseling session with an approved credit counseling agency. FSA-CCCS is approved to provide online counseling to residents filing in the following seven (7) districts: Eastern AR, Western AR, Eastern TN, Middle TN, Western TN, Northern MS, and Southern MS.

Online Pre-Filing Bankruptcy Counseling is an interactive online course that you can complete at your own pace. You can leave the course and return where you left off as often as you desire. Most clients require at least two hours completing the entire course online.

Once you complete the online course, including all required questions and worksheets, you will need to call 1-800-255-2227 or locally 501-753-0202 to schedule an appointment for a counseling session by phone. Appointments are generally available within one business day. After completion of your counseling session, your "certificate of completion" will be sent to you via your chosen method (email, fax or mail) within one business day. Incomplete items or worksheets may delay your certificate.

If you are filing Bankruptcy Jointly with your spouse, your spouse will also have to complete this pre-filing counseling course and counseling session to obtain his/her own certificate. Your spouse can complete the counseling for a reduced fee of $20 after you have paid the full fee of $40. Once you have paid the fee, your spouse can call us at 1-800-255-2227 to request the spouse reduced Bankruptcy fee "discount code". (Refunds will not be made for fees paid before discounted fee is approved.)

First, assemble your financial information so that you can complete the online worksheets. You will be able to complete the course much more efficiently if you have these items prepared beforehand. You will need details regarding:

  • Your income
  • Your living expenses
  • All your debts, whether or not included in your bankruptcy
